Trip to Pokagon State Park & Seaplane Splash-In
Sept 19 to 22, 2025 (Fri-Mon, 3 nights)
Join us for a weekend of fun and nature at Pokagon State Park. The park is on 3-mile long Lake James, near Angola, in the northeast corner of Indiana. It is about a 3-hour drive from Oak Brook. We’ll be staying at the Potawatomi Inn at the Park. Our trip coincides with the annual Seaplane Splash-In. We will also be enjoying an Amish dinner in an Amish home in Shipshewana. Detailed directions and a list of our activity plans will be distributed a couple of weeks before the trip.
View Pokagon Website.
View Park Brochure & Map. This link contains all kinds of info on the park, including a diagram of the nine hiking trails, location of the nature center, both beaches, and the saddle barn. It lists many activities, and a bit of the park history.
We will be staying three nights in the park's lodge – Potawatomi Inn.
View room descriptions. Because of new penalties for unused rooms in a block, we are skipping a block of rooms this year. We are asking everyone to book their own room – not part of any block. The only drawback is that you must book right away, or the rooms will fill up. The standard two-queen room is roughly $140 (before taxes & fees). The older historic section has two-full-bed rooms for $120 and one-full-bed rooms for $110. (The historic rooms are smaller and usually have a step up to the bathroom.)
Reservations: Call Potawatomi Inn at 260-833-1077 to reserve your room.
Please book ASAP - Rooms book fast for this special weekend, and again, we don’t have a reserved block of rooms. I suggest booking in the next week or two. (This is not like previous years where you could wait until July.) After booking, email Dave to let him know.
Cancellation: If needed, cancel by Sep 14, or you’ll be charged one night’s stay. If you have concerns about this, review the policy with the hotel when you reserve your room.
Shipshewana is a small Amish town 45 minutes west of Pokagon. The best way to get the full Amish Country experience is to enjoy dinner in an Amish home. It’s a great opportunity to get your questions answered about Shipshewana's heritage. We have scheduled a family-style dinner for us on Sep 20, cost $28.
Also, you can explore the
Downtown Shops. Or

This is our main event. Come to the lawn at the Potawatomi Inn to watch seaplanes flying, landing, and taking off in this one-of-a-kind full-day event!
Visit the
Seaplane Splash-In page, which even has an interactive jigsaw puzzle at the bottom of the page!
Watch 4-min video of seaplanes at Pokagon, for good view of how it works.
